Built in 1860, Cleadon Water Tower is a remarkable piece of Victorian engineering that once formed part of a hydraulic pumping station supplying water to Sunderland and the surrounding areas. Standing over 100 feet tall, the red-brick structure rises proudly above the surrounding woodland, its castellated top and elegant arched windows making it a unique and enduring landmark in South Tyneside. Although it has long since ceased operation, the tower remains a Grade II listed monument to the ingenuity of the region’s industrial age.
This striking aerial image captures the full height of the tower peeking through a lush canopy of trees, with the rooftops of Cleadon village and the glint of the North Sea on the horizon. The deep reds of the brickwork contrast beautifully with the summer green of the foliage and the moody teal sky, making this a bold and atmospheric print – ideal for lovers of North East heritage or industrial architecture.
