Opened in 1934, the Tees Newport Bridge is a rare example of a vertical-lift bridge in the UK, designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson, and constructed by the legendary Dorman Long of Middlesbrough. Originally built to allow ships to pass beneath it by lifting the central span, the bridge is a proud symbol of Teesside’s industrial might and engineering innovation. Though the lift mechanism is no longer operational, the bridge remains a listed structure and a vital crossing over the River Tees, linking Middlesbrough with Stockton-on-Tees.

Captured from above, this high-resolution image highlights the commanding presence of the bold red steelwork and towering lift shafts as they stretch across the reflective waters of the Tees. The backdrop of Teesside’s industrial landscape under a gentle haze evokes both history and progress, offering a visually striking homage to this Northern engineering icon. Perfect for collectors of industrial heritage and lovers of Teesside’s proud past.
